Two public elementary schools in Calatagan, Batangas became the recent beneficiaries of the ETV package donated by the E. Zobel Foundation (EZF). The ETV was a commendation and reward for the two schools for their exemplary performances ---- Gulod Elementary School for topping the National Achievement Test in the district for three consecutive years; and Talisay Elementary School for being adjudged as the Best Managed School during the E. Zobel Foundation’s Christmas Party with the volunteers.

Books were outdated and in horrible condition; general reading books were not relevant to the existing needs of the students and teachers. This was the sad state of the library of the Calatagan National High School (CNHS), a public school in its fifth year of operation with a population of approximately 1,300 students.

Last April 26, 2011 marked the date of Calatagan’s third annual Environmental Youth Leadership Camp, a Local Government program that has gained popularity as a model-youth program since the first camp’s success in 2009.

139 Zobel Employees’ Dependents  Receive Scholarship Support from EZF

Fifty nine elementary, 39 high school and 41 college students for a total of 141 are this year’s beneficiaries of the Educational Assistance Program of the E. Zobel Foundation. As scholars, their tuition and miscellaneous fees, school uniforms, books, college students’ monthly board, lodging and transportation allowance are supported by the foundation. These lucky children are all dependents of the employees of the Zobel companies with two years or more in employment service. The scholarship program is being implemented for three years now and regarded by the parents as a great help in their household budget. Moreover, a number of school leavers have now returned to formal schooling as they see an opportunity to finish their preferred courses and eventually contribute to improved family living condition.

Candle-making Brings Hope To Malnourished Children

Calatagan, Batangas - Vivian is an active barangay health worker and a doting grandmother to her 10 grandchildren. Being a long time health worker, she is fully aware of the malnutrition problem in her community. In fact, two of her grandchildren, who are living with her, were found out to be malnourished based on the E. Zobel Foundation’s operation timbang. (E. Zobel Foundation is an NGO based in Calatagan, Batangas whose thrust is to respond to the socio-developmental needs of the communities they served.)

Retirees Receive Healthy Christmas Treats

Calatagan, Batangas - Retirees of EZF received a healthy Christmas treat last December 18, 2010 during the annual Christmas Party held at EZ Foundation garden. The elderly were engaged on a health education session and each were given the chance to use the Karada Scanner to know their visceral and body fats. The program ended with a gift-giving led by EZF Chair Ms. Dee Ann Zobel.

Doors of Hope Opens Up  For Calatagan Out-Of-School-Youth

Nine (9) high school graduates from different barangays in Calatagan, Batangas became this year’s beneficiary of employable skills training program sponsored by the E. Zobel Foundation in partnership with the Palico Training Center. Six students are currently enrolled under the course, Food and Beverage Services (previously called Hotel and Restaurant Management) while three others are taking up Building Maintenance.

The E. Zobel Foundation, committing to improve the quality of life of schoolchildren in Calatagan, Batangas, acknowledges this fact and recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement with UP Manila, through its Ugnayan ng Pahinungod, to undertake a “Five-Year Restorative and Oral Health Care Program” in a pilot public school, Jose M. Caisip Elementary School, with 69 grade one pupils.
