This program involves activities which aim to improve the health and nutrition status of the schoolchildren in program areas, leading to a decrease in drop out rate, and improved school performance.  It also aims to equip the parents of the schoolchildren with additional knowledge and skills towards proper nutrition, effective parenting and childcare.

    Five-Year Restorative and Oral Health Care Program in Calatagan

    The E. Zobel Foundation, committing to improve the quality of life of schoolchildren in Calatagan, Batangas, acknowledges this fact and recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement with UP Manila, through its Ugnayan ng Pahinungod, to undertake a “Five-Year Restorative and Oral Health Care Program” in a pilot public school, Jose M. Caisip Elementary School, with 69 grade one pupils. The program intends to conduct dental health education sessions with the parents and the children beneficiaries, and do dental health prevention services, such as regular check up, putting sealants to infected tooth to avoid further deterioration, proper tooth brushing, and the likes. The program partners, EZF and UP Manila, are hopeful that this program will be successful with the strong commitment and participation of the parents, as well as the school and the community.

    Fifty one (51) Calateguenos were lucky patients of a free surgical mission (cyst removal) courtesy of the Alay Kapwa Kilusang Pangkalusugan (AKAP) and UP Pahinungod – PGH. AKAP organized the mission in close coordination with the Zobel Foundation and the Municipal Office of Calatagan. The newly-renovated government hospital, Calatagan Medicare Hospital, served as the venue of the activity. Apart from the free operation, treatment medicines were also disbursed by AKAP.

    The Oral Health Care Project, now on its last phase, continues to impart the good oral health practices to 65 fifth graders of the pilot school, Jose Caisip Elem. School. It is a five-year project with UP Pahinungod volunteer dentists and nurses educating the beneficiaries with proper dental habit by daily in-school tooth brushing, tooth extraction and filling, and health education sessions (with parents as well).
