This program aims to provide better access to quality and relevant education through the creative use of available learning packages, alternative learning approaches, like Botanical Tour, visit to the museums, support for enhancing inherent talents of the students, especially in music and arts.

    Every Batangueño Reader, An Achiever

    One hundred fifty eight (158) grades 1 to 3 pupils of Santiago Zobel Elementary School gathered at the school’s covered court last October 13, 2009 to participate in the Project Vi reading session. This literacy project was launched in 2008 with a vision that every Batangueño will be proficient in reading and eventually become an achiever. Early this year, workbooks were distributed to pilot schools. The mobile library is now making rounds to schools initiating reading sessions. In Calatagan, the E. Zobel Foundation and LGU are active partners in this project.

    Two public elementary schools in Calatagan, Batangas became the recent beneficiaries of the ETV package donated by the E. Zobel Foundation (EZF). The ETV was a commendation and reward for the two schools for their exemplary performances ---- Gulod Elementary School for topping the National Achievement Test in the district for three consecutive years; and Talisay Elementary School for being adjudged as the Best Managed School during the E. Zobel Foundation’s Christmas Party with the volunteers.

    I Luv To Read Relaunched

    Calatagan, Batangas - Si Isem sa Bayang Bawal Tumawa, a story about a cheerful individual and how he helped transform a gloomy town into a bright and breezy village, portrayed best by volunteer storytellers of Santiago Zobel Elementary School, became the highlight of the re-launching ceremony of the I ♥ 2 READ PROJECT. The activity was held recently at the Jacobo Zobel Elementary School and attended by Calatagan District School Heads and 50 grade two pupils. Mr. Joselito Rodriguez, the E. Zobel Foundation’s Executive Director, presented the accomplishments since the project was initiated in September 2008, and the activities scheduled for this School Year 2010 – 2011. Likewise, Ms. Dee Zobel, EZF Chairman, reiterated the importance of a reading program to help enhance the district’s performance in the National Achievement Test. Mr. Mario Caunceran, representing the school heads of Calatagan, acknowledged the significance of the I ♥ 2 READ PROJECT and pronounced his support in this endeavor. He said further that more programs of this magnitude should be made available to support elementary education.

    The E. Zobel Foundation offered a two-day free at Art Workshop last summer to talented students from the different public and private schools of Calatagan, Bata ngas. The Summer Art Workshop was designed to develop and improve the innate talents of the aspiring artists in painting. A mix of elementary and high school students registered and completed the course. Art materials were provided free to the participants.

    A Makeover For Libraries

    The Library Management Seminar, attended by more than 30 public elementary and secondary teachers, became one of the catalysts in transforming the school libraries of Calatagan National High School, Enrique Zobel Elementary School and Santiago Zobel Elementary School into a colorful, functional, and organized room for learning. Thanks to the De La Salle Santiago Zobel School teacher volunteers in coordination with the E. Zobel Foundation, who organized the day-long seminar. Several weeks after the activity, consultations and school meetings were done to discuss the workplan and carry out the various tasks such as outsourcing of library books and other reading materials, solicitation for prospective cash donors, establishments of library club and its ser of officers, and renovation/improvement works.

    Dear Wind of Asia, Hi, I am Joey Malabanan, a freshman student at Calatagan National High School (Calatagan, Batangas). My parents and I would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to the Wind of Asia for granting me with bicycle which I am now using in going to school. Before, my transportation to and from the school was Php70.00 a day. With this bike, my parents are able to save Php 1,400.00 a month, which can now be used to fund other family necessities.
