Zobel Foundation and De La Salle Promote Love Of Reading

Program: Learning Support

The Foundation, in partnership with De La Salle Zobel School, remains steadfast in its campaign to promote the love of reading among schoolchildren, through Reading Camp, Adopt-A-Library, and Book Mobile Projects. Printed words are so powerful and important that the EZF and Learning Resource Center of De La Salle capitalized on in the two-day reading camp held at Enrique Zobel Elementary School with over 50 students attending. Storytellings and plays encouraged the reading readiness of the third graders that they enjoyed reading inside the set up tents, attesting indeed that books are a source of pleasure but more so, information. On the other hand, more schools benefitted from a wide array of borrowed books courtesy of the Book Mobile Project of De La Salle Zobel School. The project aims to reach out to schools with limited access to books and other resource materials. Books are housed in colourful cabinets and provided to various schools on loan basis for two to three months. And thanks to the Adopt-A-Library Project, Jose Caisip Elementary School’s library had a makeover as it received over a hundred books, shelves and audio-visual materials to the delight of 497 students and 15 teachers. The learning hub, made brighter and more pleasant, was also highlighted with a mural depicting love of books to entice more students to come and simply enjoy reading. The EZF is strongly pursuing this love for reading campaign as we believed that reading stimulates the mind and essential to academic learning.
